ABOUT

Tasmania is an island state in Australia with Hobart as its capital

Hobart, as an old town in Australia, sits on the River Derwent. It is home to about 206,097 people (2016 census)

As one of Australia’s oldest cities, Hobart has a captivating history, mountains, waterways, and culinary experiences. There are also other high-prized restaurants where you can expect to find excellent Tasmanian dishes. Fresh seafood is gotten directly from the Southern Ocean.

Here are some of the tourist attractions at Hobart Town:

Salamanca Place is an essential feature of Hobart town. It is located at Sullivans Cove, which is made of cobblestones. Originally a place for sailors and other workers, Salamanca is now a cultural ground. There are many stores and shops of art galleries, cafés, bars, boutiques, jewelry-shops, theatres, and others.

The Salamanca Market in Salamanca Place is located at Hobart’s waterfront. It is the most popular market in Tasmania and an exciting market to go on a shopping spree. It is the most visited tourist attraction center in Hobart. This large market is Hobart’s iconic Saturday tradition, and it brings Hobart’s waterfront alive. There you find stock of fresh Tasmanian produces, as well as various culinary treats.

If you have a nick for antiques, Salamanca Market is the right market to head to. You can find timber and homewares, clothing, leather works, and other artworks. It booms with vibrant cultural and artistic inspiration.

In summer, you can cool down after a shopping spree with the refreshing locally brewed ginger beer. In winter, feasting on a bowl of tempura-battered mushroom and wasayi mayo is the best way to warm up. It opens from 8am-3pm every Saturday. During the market opening duration, limited cars are allowed to park near the market. This is to encourage the use of the market’s shuttle buses, the local car parks, or the Metro bus system.

You will also see performers displaying in the market square. Many music instruments and styles are featured to please every onlooker.

Spacebar Gallery is in Salamanca Arts Centre. Here, you can get all your art materials from a canvas to a quirky print. The Spacebar Gallery was established to give support to independent artists and designers. The Spacebar Gallery though impressive, now had a rough history; it was once a sandstone warehouse.

Peacock theatre is famous for its exciting performances. It was once a quarry in the Salamanca Arts Centre. Those in love with theatre performances can enjoy an evening filled with dance, music, and film at Peacock Theatre. On Friday nights at the courtyard of the arts center, you can be there to enjoy the jazz and swing regular music.

There are also several restaurants close to Salamanca Place, such as Maldini Italian Café Restaurant. This restaurant is a beautiful mix of old and new, from stunning chandeliers to the walls adorned in original contemporary artworks by Tom Samek. The interior can be described as cozy.Outside the restaurant are comfortable dining seatings at pavement level.
